Colonial
Colonial design derives from Greek and Roman architecture with symmetry, balance and proportion of utmost importance. It is considered the first popular style of architecture to take root in America and can be seen in abundance in all of the East Coast states that were home to the original thirteen colonies. Balance rules the day for this home style with symmetrical window placement, a gabled or hip roof and an entrance set off with one or two story columns. Many variations fall in this category including Federal, Neo-Classical, Regency and Georgian.
