Meet our June 2009 Designer of the Month

Lowcountry Style Meets the “Jump Test”

This month we're pleased to introduce the work of a Charleston , SC based designer who specializes in residential designs that capture the delightful and varied architecture of the South Carolina Lowcountry. With over 30 years of design and residential construction experience, our designer of the month knows how to make a floor plan work. His designs cover a wide range from fanciful plans suited for vacation homes to elegant designs right at home in upscale neighborhoods. Many incorporate nautical design elements, such has port hole windows, watch towers and exposed rafter tails, that can be found in many older homes in this historic port city. The designer works side by side with a building contractor, which he says, along with his own extensive construction knowledge, aides him tremendously in designing homes that are not just livable but are designed to be “solid” and practical to build too. In fact, the designer will often demonstrate just how solid his designs are by conducting a “Jump Test” in which he (all 6' 6” of him) jumps up and down on a given floor in one of his completed designs to show how nothing rattles in the house. Not even knickknacks on shelves!

A quote from the designer : “My goal is to design homes that are comfortable to live in. Too often the focus is on square footage, rather than the finer details that give a home character. My primary business is in offering design/build services which has provided me with a great deal of knowledge in designing homes to fit within a specific budget. We've applied the same amount of thought and planning that it takes to exceed customer expectations in custom home building to our stock plan collection. We've made a big effort to keep the designs practical to build while making sure that the plans retain their strong visual appeal.
